The download obligation rests on the transport undertaking — not the driver

Under EU law, the duty to download tachograph data rests with the transport undertaking — the carrier or company that operates the vehicle (Regulation (EU) No 165/2014, Article 33). The maximum intervals are at least every 28 days for the driver card and at least every 90 days for the vehicle unit (Commission Regulation (EU) No 581/2010).

If you drive for an employer, the obligation is on them — but you still benefit from keeping your own copies. TAGRA Trucker downloads and archives your driver card data so you can check your own driver's hours and have your records ready if you ever change employer.

If you are a self-employed driver or owner-operator, you are also the transport undertaking — so you are legally required to download driver card data and vehicle unit data. For that you need at least TAGRA 1, which handles both driver card and vehicle unit downloads for one vehicle. TAGRA Trucker alone is not sufficient in this case.

Who is TAGRA Trucker designed for?
TAGRA Trucker is tachograph software for professional drivers — truck and van drivers — who want to keep track of their own driver card data and monitor compliance with EU drivers' hours and rest periods.
Is the USB card reader included?
Yes. The USB driver card reader is included in the box. You can read your card immediately without buying anything extra.
How do I get data into the software?
Connect the included USB reader, insert your card, and TAGRA performs the driver card download automatically. You can also import .DDD or .C1B files you've already downloaded elsewhere.
How often should I download my card?

Under EU law, the legal duty to download tachograph data rests on the transport undertaking (Regulation (EU) No 165/2014, Article 33), not the driver. The maximum intervals are at least every 28 days for the driver card and at least every 90 days for the vehicle unit (Commission Regulation (EU) No 581/2010).

As an employed driver, the obligation is on your employer — but downloading your own card with TAGRA Trucker still helps you stay on top of your driver's hours and keep personal records.

As a self-employed driver or owner-operator, you are the transport undertaking, so the obligation falls on you in that role — and you need a solution that handles both driver card and vehicle unit downloads. In that case, TAGRA 1 is the minimum tier; TAGRA Trucker alone covers only the driver card.

Does TAGRA Trucker work offline?
Yes. TAGRA Trucker works fully offline. Internet is only needed to download the installer and receive updates.
Is TAGRA Trucker ready for the July 2026 van obligation?
Yes. TAGRA Trucker is fully prepared for van drivers (2.5–3.5 t vehicles in international transport) affected by the new tachograph obligation from July 2026.
How do I buy TAGRA Trucker after the trial?
At the end of the trial — or whenever you're ready — open the licence menu inside the software, select TAGRA Trucker and pay online by QR code or bank transfer. Your licence is activated immediately.
