Simply driver card download is not enough — the law requires regular digital tachograph analysis and archiving. TAGRA is end-to-end tachograph analysis software with minimal administrative burden, for 1 to unlimited vehicles.
The law requires operators to regularly evaluate and archive tachograph data. Without proper digital tachograph analysis you risk fines — even if you already have the data downloaded.
Cards must be downloaded at least every 28 days. TAGRA alerts you before deadlines.
Units must be downloaded at least every 90 days. Archiving is required for a minimum of 1 year.

Why the record itself is your defence
Article 10(3) makes the operator liable for infringements committed by its drivers — even when they happen in another country. But the same article lets member states consider evidence that the operator cannot reasonably be held responsible. That evidence is exactly what Article 10(2) asks you to produce: proof that drivers were properly instructed and that you carry out regular checks.
In practice an inspector is not looking for a clean record. They are looking for whether infringements were detected, investigated and acted on. TAGRA produces the infringement report you hand to the driver and keep on file — the document that turns "our driver broke the rules" into "we found it, we addressed it".

Without an inserted company card the tachograph will not allow data to be downloaded from the vehicle. It acts as your electronic key, authorising access to your company's data.
The card is issued by the relevant national transport authority and is valid for 5 years. Make sure you obtain one in time.
